Sunday Snapshot {better with a friend}

Assessment stagger days wrapped up Tuesday and Wednesday we went to meet the teacher.  Thursday was the first day for all the kindergarteners at Kylie's school.   And while she was still clearly having some anxiety about the official start of her kindergarten year, that first day she had a friend at her side.

These two were born two weeks apart in the same province of China.  Their parents met on the flight to Beijing.  They were united with their forever families within minutes of each other in the same hot room at the civil affairs office in Guangzhou.  Three days later they had their first of  many play dates in the China Hotel.

And as testament to God's amazing design, today they live in the same neighborhood.

as the girls stood on shannon's driveway thursday morning i had flashbacks of a visit ky and i made just days after  her second birthday.  i asked them to sit down and it made my throat catch a little as i remembered in my mind just how tiny they were in that picture.  see for yourself here.
For that reason, they are attending the same elementary school.

And if you are going to the same school, you may as well walk together on the first real day, right?

They held hands the entire way.  We're not sure if it was a sign of their friendship or a matter of survival. Shannon and I walked just out of earshot for most of the time, but occasionally caught bits of conversation about random things ~ what they thought they'd do at gymnastics that night, silly antics they had witnessed in their siblings, what they did the day before...

Sweetest of all though?  I overheard Ky at one point say, "Yeah, I'm a little bit nervous too.  But I know I'll see you on the playground.  Okay?"

must... fight...back...tears ~ so thankful she has someone she shares so much history with to face the unknown of elementary school!

Kristi, That is absolutely the most amazing and precious story I've read in a long time! You are so BLESSED to be so close to Kylie's China Sister.

While we have one in our town physically (yes, same SWI though they came home at different times), there is no relationship. Our girls don't even know each other. It breaks my heart, but I have tried.

I am sure you don't take it for granted, but for someone who prays DAILY for a friend like that for her DD ... just had to share thank you for sharing b/c this gives me hope.

My precious, Kylie (and Lottie), you are so grown-up. Know you will love school and meeting many new friends. I'm so happy that you have each other to walk to and from school together (with Mama's as well, of course). I'm so proud of you. Want to talk with you all about what you are learning at school!

What a wonderful gift to have such a good friend to walk to school with on the first day (and many days after as well). You too just look like you have been together forever. I'm so happy for you both. Have a great school year.
