No longer the baby

I've been trying to avoid noticing, but the signs have been popping up everywhere.  I guess at nearly four and a half it was inevitable...

She now usually prefers to hold our hands and walk beside us to being carried.

Her once difficult to understand speech has suddenly become painfully clear.

Detailed imaginative play has mostly replaced her time fiddling with Polly Pockets.

Just last week she counted to 100 at the dinner table (it may have even been to distract us from the fact that she was avoiding her sweet potatoes).

Her overwhelming sweetness is sometimes almost smothered with a side of sass.

And somebody tell me when her hair got long enough to pull back in a pony?

I suppose it was good timing for someone new to join the family because DQ has happily passed the 'baby of the family baton' to her younger brother ~ and, much to my dismay, never once looked back.

Sigh.  They just keep growing up...

Oh I am so feeling this way about both my girls. Try as I may, they just won't stay babies. Although I seriously wouldn't mind if Lydia would please hurry up and finish potty training herself. ;-)

It is hard when they are not babies when you get them. My youngest was 4 when I got her and that was alomst 4 years ago. Seems like she grew up SO fast but I guess she was not really a baby with me to begin with! At least she still has a side that likes to be babied!

She is just so beautiful... and... becoming SO grown up! The other day I went back and looked through her whole "journey" and loved every minute of it. But oh, she seemed SO little back then!

Look at your sweet Darcy with her hand on her hip! A little sass looks good on her.

Now that you mention it Darcy DOES look so grown up now. So 4.5 is the magic age, I have a year left then :)

Love that DQ! And love that she has 'found' her own, a little 'sass' is ok - right? :0)

Darcy Q, you are growing so fast. You surely don't look like the "baby" of the family any longer. Know you are happy to let Daniel take that position. You are just beautiful!
