Her own mind

So with getting older (pushing the ripe age of 3) comes more expressions of independence. Take for instance, clothing.

Yesterday we headed out to continue our quest of visiting every furniture store on Glenwood Avenue to find a dresser to match Caleb's bed. (Mercifully we found one and got to check "furniture shopping" off our list after two days of searching!) Being the Hokie family that we are, we had planned to sport our colors all day long. Ian and I quickly dressed (easy for me when it's a Hokie day ~ I only have one shirt right now) and Caleb happily giggled his way into his shirt. But little missy had her own plan...
Despite the fact that I had her shirt and jeans laid out for her to put on (she mostly dresses herself these days) she opted for this fun dress, loudly proclaiming "I yike pihnk!" I tried my best to get her to change her mind, but it wasn't gonna happen, so we went out with three dressed in Chicago Maroon and Burnt Orange (the official names of VT colors) and one in pink velour. (I just hope no one thought we didn't care enough about her to have her match or that we were being sexist and dress our boy to appreciate football and keep our girl in a pink dress!)

Anyway, after dinner when we were about to turn on the TV to watch the game, Kylie had a change of heart. She studied her outfit that was still waiting to be worn
and then asked me "Do you fink it whill make Da-dee hap-pee if I wear dis?" And so we changed... Glad to have you join us little one!

"GO HOKIES!!!" (She even let me put her hair in "piggies" with her Hokie hairbows).

Wait til your 8 y/o tells you, "Mom, I serious think you need some new clothes. Like, don't you want to be cool?" Ummm..well, if cool means wearing Hannah Montana jeans or a Jonas Bros t-shirt, well, I'm happy being uncool. ;-) Oh, and don't even get me started on make-up. Because I wayyy behind the times according to Anna. Body glitter is in, minimal make-up is out.

I"m glad to see that we're not the only ones that have a "strong-willed" little 3 (almost) year old!! I'm just trying to learn what battles are worth it! By the way -- the last picture of her up close -- sooooo cute!! Having fun w/ the new camera??

Too funny. Maggie doesn't challenge me much with her clothing yet, but I am ready for it any day now!!!

I think it is amazing that she is dressing herself. At least she still puts clothes on right side out and not back to front. I understand that twist will come soon. The closeup picture of Kylie is so stunning - sometimes she takes my breath away.
