OBX "school-cation" {exploring the first flight path}

**october 20, 2020 ~ finally finding some time to play catch up**

On Nat's birthday we had planned to drive into Nags Head to visit Jennette's Pier per her request of things to do nearby.  But within a fewof the ten miles of driving down we realized we were headed straight into a fog bank and seriously doubted we'd be able to see a thing.

Thankfully she was in a flexible mood and so we opted to visit the Wright Brothers National Monument in our free time between school and dinner instead.

By the time we had rerouted and gotten to the memorial, the museum was within 30 minutes of closing.  The good news was that the grounds were open for another hour past that and admission was good for a week so we could come back to explore the museum later (our house was less than a mile from the monument entrance, so we knew it would be easy to get back).

Anyone that knows Daniel well should not be surprised in the least that he quickly volunteered to see if he could run the flight path faster than the first glider could fly.

They also should not find it astonishing that he was indeed faster than the Wright Flyer.

Not to be outdone by their little brother, Kylie and Darcy both decided to give it a go as well.

And then there was my big boy.  Self proclaimed to be faster than the Flyer, so he just kinda stood there...

As we walked we noticed the geodesic survey marker.  Some time ago we began taking photos of them and could put together quite a collection geodesic marker 'hand model' shots from places we've visited.

Nicholas wasn't feeling the running...or even the walking for that matter...of the flight path, but this kid is always, always up for a quick snuggle.

My 'N twins.'

Gracious but they're goofy little ones.

It looked questionable on having time to walk up to the monument on the hill where many of the test glider flights happened, so we headed on back to the house so I could pop Nat's birthday dinner in the oven.  Once that was done, I wanted to head to the beach and found two kindred spirits to go along with me.

One could get used to such easy beach access...
