social distancing {week eight ~ backyard camping and games}

The weather is slowly getting warmer and it makes me appreciate just how long and lovely our spring has been.  Honest, I can't remember a spring that has stayed so cool for a number of years.  We frequently have one week of perfect temperatures between the "last hurrah" snow and the HOT dog days of summer in our part of the south.

This week started with a family walk to our neighborhood park.  We tossed a football and played frisbee for about an hour before heading back home.

This week also marked a right of passage for Daniel.  Ian finally got an electric mower (that is very light) and D has officially taken over mowing the lawn.

Next weekend we were supposed to be taking our yearly Mother's Day camping trip, but due to pandemic closures, Pilot Mountain State Park is closed and our reservation was cancelled.  The weather Saturday night was perfect, so the younger set suggested we camp in our backyard to make up for it.

Nicholas insisted in resurrecting the frog tent and even slept alone it it.

And of course what is a "camping trip" without roasting hot dogs and ending with s'mores?

I'm not sure what is going on in this picture, but rest assured it is about to be trouble.  These two are the dynamic duo of mischief!

A MI assignment this week for the littles was to use various pasta shapes to create a self portrait.  Nat and HoHo had fun with the assignment.

Again, this amazing weather.  They've taken many scooter/bike rides to accompany me on walks for their PE time this spring.

We also try to have one or two game nights a week.  While spoons has been a favorite, we were introduced to Telestrations (think Pictionary meets old school Telephone) and by the time a phrase passes through a cycle of drawing/pass/guessing/pass four times, there are a LOT of laughs involved.

Boredom has also seen the revival of toys long forgotten, in this case the car mat and cars.  They have been playing with a fun combination of Ian's old Matchbox & HotWheels cars and Lightning McQueen and friends.

I suspect it will get old, but the slack line continues to be the front yard gathering spot.

In some ways it seems like it hasn't been that long since we've been home together.  But maybe Darcy feels differently?
