introducing Nicholas to fair night

'Round here we have a few traditions.

From the small scale ~ Friday pizza and movie night and donuts on half birthdays ~ to the medium ~ camping over Mother's and Father's Day weekends ~ to the slightly bigger ~ a week at Sunset Beach with Grandma and the cousins and big nights on the Boardwalk in Rehoboth with Grandpa ~ we have a number of things that the kids...and Ian and I too!...anticipate each year.

A big night at the state fair with Cousin Jordan (and since she entered our lives, Cousin Stephanie too!) is one of them.

This year though there was the slight technical difficulty that Jordan and Stephanie are now living in Rwanda...not quite a car ride from Ohio down to attend fair night with us.  So we did what we could...

We missed them bunches, but we did have a new family member to introduce to the big night.

And we introduced him well.  From foot long corndogs and BBQ sundaes (layer BBQ, baked beans and then coleslaw in a big cup)...

...to a ride bracelet so we could ride ALL the rides.

Nicholas LOVED it.

And yes, we checked in with his cardio team before allowing him to ride anything.  Turns out that his little heart is so unique that his defect doesn't prevent him from being able to ride all the "heart warning" rides.

So we alternated throughout the night...riding rides that we have enjoyed with Jordan and Stephanie,

(okay, some of the rides were maybe "endured" instead of "enjoyed")

...to eating all the good snacks that we have sampled with them.

Lots of rides, lots of treats.
You know when you have a party of 8 nobody gets much funnel cake at all.
At least that was how we justified corn dogs, BBQ sundaes, cotton candy, Deep Fried Jalepeno Pimento Cheese and Bacon Hushpuppies with Sriacha Bang Bang Dipping Sauce, funnel cakes and lots of lemonade...

The weather was "iffy" and so when it began to heavily mist, we ducked in to see the blue ribbon winning pumpkin.

Because tradition...

As the night wore on and we began to wear down, we did skip a ride or two even if we paused in front to commemorate just how we felt when we rode it in previous years.

And then the evening closer.

The Ferris Wheel.

It's just how we end fair night.

See you in 2018 State Fair.

Hope you'll be ready for us!
