Memorial Day mystery trip: destination the beach

As Memorial Day approached, I and I realized it had been a while since we had taken our kids on their last mystery trip.

A casual conversation with our next door neighbors as Ian was grilling one evening led to them to inviting us to come visit them at their beach house for the day so we'd have a place to eat lunch and shower when we were done on the beach.

Now when it comes to an invitation to hang out at the beach, you don't have to ask us twice...we are a family of beach bums!

We headed out bright and early that morning and the kids watched The Lion King which gave Ian and I plenty of time for conversation (and singing along to the great songs of course!)  The movie ended as we neared Topsail Island and we told the kids to start watching their surroundings carefully to see if they could get any clues on where we were headed.  The excitement that erupted as they realized we were beach bound was spectacular!

Sand.

Salt water.

Castle building.

Crashing waves.

We LOVE it all!

So thankful for our sweet neighbors (who told us that we have been a blessing to them since we moved in two years ago ~ they love to hear the kids playing in the backyard) for hosting us for a delightful day in the sun.

It was just the fun and relaxing day we needed to make it to the end of the school year.

And next time we hit the beach there should be one more bathing suit-clad beauty in the family pic!

I do miss the "beach"! These pics make me miss it even more. We have the coast which, frankly, is prettier than the beach (east coast) but just not the same. Too cold, too windy! Enjoy your summer!!!
