Very recently I had a little girl who pretty much ate, slept and breathed Hello Kitty.
Apparently I over-estimated how long that little girl was going to be around.
Because I blinked, just once or maybe twice, and that little girl who adored all things Hello Kitty chose a black backpack with brightly colored peace symbols all over it when we went back to school shopping instead of the three adorable Hello Kitty packs on the hooks around it.
(((insert tears ~ yes, it's silly to be upset, I know. It just seems the end of an era in our house and I'm not quite ready for it yet...)))
And now when I open my eyes a little and admit to myself, I can see that she's not such a little girl anymore.
Which I guess is a good thing. Since she starts FIRST grade tomorrow.
And when I look a little harder, I stand in amazement at how lovely and sweet and confident she's become.
BUT. If you have a secret for keeping them "small-ish" please let me know. My heart can't take much more of this growing up stuff...

Oh, Kristi, I can so relate!! And the even sadder thing: they keep getting bigger and older and it doesn't get any easier!! Tomorrow my baby boy starts middle school and I remember kindergarten and 1st grade like it was yesterday!! Sending some cyber hugs your way for tomorrow!!
Wish I had that secret for keeping them small-ish. I'm so sad that I'll never have a 1st day of kindergarten again. Boo too! I hope Ky has a GREAT day tomorrow!!
Good luck, Kylie and Mommy!! Maggie's first day is tomorrow too! Our girls are growing up too fast. :(
We're a week into first grade here. I think it is a little easier than kindergarten was, although it may just be that I've gone back to work and am too tired to dwell on it much.
It happens way to fast! I'll be praying for you as three of your four head off to school tomorrow! UGH! Poor Daniel... Poor You... you guys are going to rattle around in that house.
All I have to say is there's a big hug waiting for you the next time I see you. And that there's 170 days left of school here. You'd better believe I'm counting.
I know you know, I surely do feel your pain! It doesn't get any easier the bigger they are, either.
Congrats on first grade, Kylie! You're going to love it!
