Beach bums by day

From as long as I can remember, being at the beach for a week meant just that ~ being at the beach.  Our family is one of those that packs sandwiches, snacks of every kind, lots to drink and, of course, tons of sunscreen and then hits the beach for the day.

Every day.  Unless of course rain wrecked havoc on our plans.

Once Daniel proved on Saturday afternoon that he was game for lots of time in the sand and surf each day, we happily decided to continue our tradition.  We slept in, ate a leisurely breakfast (that involved eggs, lots of eggs.  no kidding, we went through five dozen while we were there) made sandwiches, had a kid sunscreen brigade, loaded our bags, coolers and wagon, and would head to be beach bums for the day.

Just what does a six to seven hour timespan on the beach look like with our family?

Well, after we got all our stuff carried...

my precious nephew pierson shows that even six year olds can carry their own weight

...and gave the day great thought...

my beautiful niece maylin caught in a moment of contemplation

...there was surfing...

my "big three" had a blast in the smaller waves

dq couldn't get enough!

ky practicing her "merliah summers" moves

my newest water baby

...sandcastle building...

maylin and "aunt cici" get started

sandy girl

working on the ever important moat

...snacking...

grapes are "nummy"

grandma gets maylin's sandwich

my chip boy happily consuming something

...frisbee playing...

daniel was determined to crash uncle adam and maylin's game

...kite flying...

with occasional kite retrieving

...bocce ball...

...wagon pulling...

daniel pulled much more than his own weight

...being dubbed princess seaweed...

beautiful even with a seaweed crown

...truck driving...

you know it is serious when the wheels fall off the truck

...cloud watching...

clouds rolled in a few days, but it never did rain on us

...and for each of our boys, a little rest time.

you know a kid is tired when he looks at you and says, "mama, zhenyu sleep" and promptly falls asleep about 45 seconds after you pick him up

i guess being blanketed in warm sand was reason enough to snooze

he rode down the beach for at least 30 minutes this way...
Our only agenda during the day was to play, play, play on the beach.  Oh, and count to six every other minute.  While keeping up with so many kiddos wasn't exactly relaxing (it's been a few years since I've read a book from my beach chair) it sure was refreshing!  We are all already looking forward to the adventure of Sunset Beach 2012!

An amazing week. With the 11 people who are nearest and dearest to me. I love all of you so much.
Was a blessing to see the congeniality of all the adults and children. You four are such wonderful parents. All six kids felt loved and secure with each one of you.
