Sunday Snapshot {Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow}

love pierson's face pressed up to the glass in anticipation of the door being opened!

Waking up to a winter wonderland the morning after Christmas brought out the kid in all of us.

We grown ups could hardly contain our excitement of putting on several layers and grabbing cameras.

I suppose the southern excitement over snow is sorta hard for our Northern friends or our 'out West' buddies to fully grasp.

(I liken it to having an Easter morning when your little girls can wear their sleeveless, frilly dresses with sandals, no tights, and no jackets.  Pretty rare for you folk that live outside the South, so you might get excited about little girls not sporting a parka on top of their Easter finery.  But for us it's a way of life.  I digress...)

I can't remember the last time my sister and I got to play in the snow together.

And that our five kids got to enjoy it together this time?

Well, it's just too bad that our still camera doesn't record sound!  Oh the squeals of glee...

Of course we grown ups didn't make the kids have all the fun themselves.

That would have been WAY too tiring for the children!

So we made the sacrifice.

To sled, ski, boogie board, and even wipe out with our kids.

Even the dogs got in on the action.

Because we know that snow in these parts isn't here to stay.  Typically it's here today, gone tomorrow, maybe sticking around for two to three days if we're lucky.

I guess that's why snow in the south gives us that reminder to seize the day.  To fully embrace all we can.

To live IN the moment.

And not to let them pass by unaware.

Because moments, like snowflakes, are fleeting.

To be savored, not wasted.

To be enjoyed with someone you love.

So for that day, we skipped naps.  We filled the entrance foyer of mom's house with wet clothing not once, but twice.  We rolled around in snow and remembered how to be kids.

There was so much fun to be had that friends of ours decided to make the trek to join in.  Andy showed better than any home study ever could that he is ready to be a daddy as he patiently withstood ~ and laughed with ~ take down after take down from my little steam engine.
We laughed.

We smiled.

We loved.

okay, so they had a 'borrowed' kid in this picture.  won't be too long guys...
The best part of embracing a snow day at Grandma's house?

Knowing that a cup of hot chocolate would be waiting for even the first snow weary kiddo.  It's sure gonna be tough to top Darcy's first Christmas...

Picture perfect! Your analogy about Easter is perfect too...Easter here usually means an Easter dress...with a sweater over it...heavy tights...boots so the pretty spring shoes don't get slushy...and yes a heavy winter coat and hat!

Well, you are definitely better parent than I! As you can see from my last post, snow has the opposite affect on me. I'd love to go south for sure. LOL

That is so awesome the kids (and their parents) got to experience the snow, especially at Christmas time. What a gift! I still get excited about snow, even though I lived in the north all my life (except when it messes up plans). Being married to a teacher helps because its means surprise daddy days when the schools close! And pre-kids, when I worked, I loved snow days because it meant a ride to work so I could sleep in longer and a lunch date! Love the pix, especially of the five faces layind down.

What a beautiful snow that provided such a fun opportunity for family and friends. Grandma Miller and I stayed in the house and watched...and helped take off layers as the kids came back inside. Precious memories!
