Wasn't it just yesterday that my sweet girl turned 3 1/2?
Oh wait, it was just yesterday. But yesterday Darcy turned 3 1/2. Today was big sister's turn!
Now my oldest is 4 1/2. And while it is a bit of indulgence to go out for donuts two nights in a row, a tradition is a tradition. So after dinner we headed to the donut shoppe of her choice. Thankfully she decided to go with variety and we got to visit the other major donut chain.
Ky was all about business. She knew exactly where she wanted to go and she knew exactly what kind of donut she wanted. After all, she is the oldest and therefore the most experienced in the half birthday celebrations.
There was something about her today that seemed just a little older than yesterday. All day long I looked at her and tried to put a finger on it. Maybe it was the outfit she assembled and the fact that she thought to bring along a sweatshirt in case it was chilly at the donut place. Maybe it was the way she brushed her bangs back out of her eyes and readjusted her headband no less than one hundred times tonight. Maybe it was her ever developing sense of humor and how she laughs at her own jokes. Maybe it was watching her "mother hen" her little siblings this afternoon. Maybe it was watching how she now gets herself up on a swing, takes advantage of the slightest of motion, and pumps her legs as hard as she can to gets herself "as high as the the sky." Maybe it was really stopping to consider that she is six months shy of being five ~ and that next year she will start kindergarten.
I'm not really sure exactly what it was, but she did age right before my eyes today. I'm sure of it. And I'm pretty sure I don't like it.
But I'm also pretty sure that there is nothing that could make me love her more. Chocolate sprinkle face and all...
Happy 4 1/2 my sweet!

I LOVE your tradition of 1/2 birthday's. Mike's parents celebrate them w/ Anne Marie - and I've always thought it was so cute! Ok - it must be in the air - the thought of that "#5" - it's hard to think that they will soon be 5 & heading off to "big-girl-school" -- and you're right it does seem to happen right before your eyes. (p.s. it's our favorite place for donuts too -- and Kylie got Anne Marie's favorite flavor!!)
STOP IT. STOP IT RIGHT NOW. This time next year, not only will we be sending all our girls off to kindergarten, but I will be sending my oldest off to college. C.O.L.L.E.G.E. And kindergarten. All in one year. There isn't enough caffeine, chocolate or salsa and chips to help that.
And Kylie couldn't be sweeter. Happy Half Birthday, girlie! Love you!
p.s. I showed these pictures to Caroline, and she said, "She's 4 1/2 like me? OOOOOOOHHHHHHH. I'm so hungry, and I can't eat because I just brushed my teeth." :-)
DARLING! I love that their b-days come so close together- what fun! And doughnuts 2 days in a row? Well, you just can't beat that! :)
Time DOES go by too quickly, doesn't it?!?
What a sweet tradition to celebrate 1/2 birthdays :)
She's adorable, sprinkles and all!
Happy half birthday to both your sweet girls!!
The Kripy Krem chain closed here in Montreal. When I saw your pictures OMG! I just realised how I'd like to have one right now ;o)
Happy half birthday to your lovely girls!
You make me think that I might start this tradition for our baby girl.
I thought about you yesterday as you celebrated your 1/2 birthday with a donut - wish I could have been there to give my precious, BIG girl a squeeze. I love you and cherish every milestone - but I wish they didn't come so fast!!! Happy 1/2 birthday Kylie.

My precious, Kylie. How can you be 4 1/2? What a nice big sister you are to Caleb and Darcy. We are all so happy to have you in our lives. You are loved beyond measure. Your donut looks yummy - next time I come up for a visit, I want to go to that donut shop and get one just like yours.
