Sunday Snapshot {Easter photoshoot}

Some day I think I'll get to the bottom of why many of us as parents feel the need to torture ourselves and get a picture of our children on a holiday.  It must be a deep seeded psychological issue.  Take my Easter experience for example.  Amazing how I very quickly lost the joy of the morning while trying to get one ~ just one mind you ~ quality shot of my three darlings.

I knew this was going to be harder than I had thought when Darcy started flipping out about the crunchy leaves getting in her sandals.
Love it when you ask them to line up and they form a "preschool line."  Oh, and Darcy is much more concerned with the leaf particles in her shoe than she is anything else!  Following this shot we had to take the sandals off and brush them out in order to continue...
Totally fake smile from Kylie, total lack of expression from Darcy, and hey, don't I have a son?
Little sass from Caleb, overly angelic look from Kylie, and another blank expression from the little one.
Caleb still in the shadows, Kylie is perplexed, and Darcy finds talent imitating a flamingo.
Anyone who knows Caleb knew it would just be a matter of time before the "Uncle Adam face" made an appearance.  Of course just as Darcy begins to wake up...
Sigh.
Do you think Caleb is starting to sense my frustration?  He knows he's winning.
Thankfully Kylie decides to take charge of the situation and pulls her younger siblings is for a huddle.
Certainly not the best shot I've gotten of the three, but at least all eyes are open and no one has a grimace.  I'll take it.

(And I have friends with up to eight darlings to photograph at a time.  How do you do it?  Cause the promise of spring marshmallows or other Easter treats obviously didn't get me very far...)

Oh, and if you promise not to tell anyone, I tried again today.  Getting better...

I think these are the perfect photos especially if they are 'perfectly' capturing their little-big personalities! And I agree with portrait sessions on a different day. I did my bridal portrait a whole month before my wedding. So much more fun for everyone!

I'd say that last one was a winner! Really, they're all adorable, especially with the commentary ;)
P.S. I can NOT believe you dressed them all up again for a second photo shoot!!

Your children are adorable! I read your story on the No Hands But Ours Blog.

We adopted a little boy from China in 2007 - I enjoyed reading the story of your little boy. Our little boy was also through the waiting child program. It is always nice to see families with the little boys.

I also have a daughter that has an eye condition. It is not the same as your daughters, but I know how hard it is to sit in the waiting room while your child is in surgery.

So - I just wanted to say hi and say I enjoyed your blog!

I love the outtakes. I'm especially fond of Caleb's "Uncle Adam" face which could very easily be mistaken for a Nancy W face!

This makes me laugh.... it certainly does take gazillions of photos to get one that you consider decent. I almost always try to have my kids sitting on a bench or something similiar. That seems to keep them contained just a little longer before someone escapes :)

All of the pictures show lots of personality. I think we should take personality over perfectness any day! They are all so stinkin' cute!!

I personally love this photo shoot. These will be precious memories one day. The out-takes are always my favorites in the end!
Your kids are precious!

Oh my goodness your lil' ones are adorable! And I am totally in your camp about wanting that "holiday shot" ... just one ... come on ... that's all a mama asks! But yes, it usually goes somewhat haywire due to someone 's disinterest or unhappiness! I was amazed to have our littlest one be the first on the fireplace for our Easter picture this year and our second oldest pulled the brothers in for a hug photo this mama is proud of. (whew!) I don't expect it to happen again real soon. haha! Loved your site, I'll have to stop back again. Stop by ours if you have time :-) My Sunday Snapshot of the hug photo was last Sunday so you'll have to scroll a bit.
Blessings

And this is one of those rare moments where I am grateful to have an only child. Heh.

Love that last photo!

and as I have mentioned before it does not get better as they get older. I made our family take TWO different shots of Christmas pictures in the -degree weather in MN because a certain oldest child refused to smile. I was MAD when we finally came back in and had chewed him out in front of everyone....all in the "spirit" of Christmas....LOL...yes, we can be sick parents at times....(I think the pictures are adorable)

I normally don't leave comments but I had a good laugh at your pictures/post. I have 5 kids and that last time the youngest (4) was crying and so I made her run around a tree (with her siblings also) and she was running and crying, it was hilarious. I ended up with no pictures (because of eyes shut) and had to retake the next Sunday after church....and my kids are older and it is still hard because they have attitudes in their teen years!!

Thanks for a great laugh at your expense. Been there and done that a time or two. Non-the-less, they are adorable.
