Reason to celebrate
Around here we enjoy celebrating. And anyone knows that celebrations go better with sweet treats!
Some think we invent excuses to celebrate. My response? Life is short, celebrate the sweet moments more!
Cause for celebration tonight? Caleb's half birthday. Today he officially turned 3 1/2. And so we went out to get donuts and sing him "Happy Half Birthday." It's a little tradition that Ian and I decided to start for our family last year. Half birthday person gets to choose between the Dunkin and the Krispy variety. And everyone gets to eat an entire donut for dessert. Even if it is chocolate covered. Even if it is just a short while before bedtime.
After all, 365 days is a long time to wait for your special day!
Anyone else have fun (and perhaps seemingly silly) traditions or rituals you celebrate with your family? Cause we need to know if we are missing any opportunities to celebrate...

Celebrating half birthday is a wonderful idea!
Happy half birthday, Caleb!! And I love your new watch;-)
Oh my gosh, that is so cute! And I think any reason for a Krispy Kreme is a good reason, ha! Love seeing sweet Caleb as he is just a couple months younger than our little one waiting in China. :) Just FYI Spencer's 1/2 birthday is the 11th - if you need another reason to celebrate, ha! Have a great weekend.
Any reason to celebrate and eat a fresh Krispy Kreme is a good one to me!! :) YUM!!!... I'm salivating over here! LOL!!
I love the fact that you celebrate half birthdays with donuts, I thought this was the coolest thing when you posted about this tradition before! We don't really have many 'planned' extra celebrations, but as you know we make room for celebrating each milestone in big ways...why not, right? Life is all about celebrations! The kids look so happy with their doughnuts, I know I'd be a happy camper too with a chocolate frosted one :)
Happy 3 1/2 b'day Caleb!!! Today is Kailee's 13 b'day. When the girls were really little Mark started buying them flowers and donuts the morning of their b'day. He sneaks out before they wake up so they are on the table when they come out of their room. They LOVE it!!!
Oh...one other thing we have done is at times when life has gotten real stressful we have had Sundaes for dinner. It started one year when things were really tight financially and mom and dad needed a "boost"..LOL! We bought ALL the toppings and that was dinner...Ice cream with any topping imaginable....the kids LOVED it...Thankfully I think we have only done it twice...
LOVE it!!!!
Happy 3 1/2, Caleb!
Too sweet! You're such a good mom! The night before each of my boys' birthdays I sneak into their room late at night and tape and turn and put streamers EVERYWHERE. From one side of the wall to the other, from their bed to the baseboards, all over the place in every direction. Over their bed, in the doorway, everywhere. It ends up looking like a giant spider web that they get to try and crawl out of on their birthday morning. Even my 13 year still loves this tradition! (Just remember to start at the far end of the room and work your way out, otherwise you will be caught in the streamers and feel like a total dork standing in your child's room at 10pm trapped by streamers. Not that that has ever happened to me....ahem....
He's such a cutie! Happy half birthday Caleb. Is that watch from Ohio? I can't tell. :)
Happy half Birthday Caleb! In our house we celebrate Friday's every week. Dad plays music at The Madonna Inn every Thursday evening and every Friday morning there is a pink bag filled with homemade cookies from the Madonna Inn. So the three of us pile into the bed and have a cookie together and Eva gets to dunk her cookie into our coffee. I love Friday's! Also I noticed that Caleb and Eva have the same birthday. Eva just turned 5 1/2 yesterday too. We are still in wait for TA, 3 weeks have just passed. Hoping to be traveling to bring Lu Zhu home in a few weeks.
Blessings,
Lisa
Oh how I wish there was still a Krispy Kreme out here but they all closed a few years ago. I love this idea! Since the girls special days are about 6 mos apart that would allow us to show some love for the siblings around the regular birthdays. So glad the surgery went well and she's already up for donuts!
Caleb looks as cute as any kid in a hat. He was just made to wear them. Love his watch and plastic bracelets. What fun!!
(We had 1/2 of a cupcake on our 1/2 birthdays. It sort of reinforced the idea on a half.)
Hi Kristi, We celebrate half birthday's at our house too. For the six month birthday I bake a half cake & put a candle on top but all half birthdays after that we go to dunkin donuts/baskin robbins so everyone gets to choose ice cream or donut :-)
This year Madison said "mommy, I don't want half birthday, I want to put them together for a whole so I can be five".
I am glad I am not the only one out there that comes up with ideas to celebrate my kids!!
Tanya
Happy half birthday, Caleb! Wow, time is going fast, isn't it? I think we may start celebrating half birthdays.
I always stop at Dunkin Donuts when we are on our way home from running errands and buy 2 donut holes (19 cents each!)... one for me & Noah, sometimes both for him. They don't advertise it but they sell them individually!
