As much as we would like to be homebodies, fact of the matter is that we spend a lot of time in the car, especially traveling on weekends. We are actually thrilled that we are going to be home for THREE weekends in a row starting this weekend. That is almost unheard of in our house!
This past weekend was no exception and while it meant four and a half hours in the car on Friday and five and a half more (thanks to a traffic nightmare) returning on Sunday, we got to see five of Kylie's "China sisters" AND Ms. Amy ~ who was somewhat the stork for our family while in China in 2007.
Ky resigned to playing with baby for a while and Caleb just kicking back before dozing off. (Taken Friday on the way to meet up with our friends).
And sometimes if you are lucky you become involved in a conversation that sounds something like this...
(Quick backstory ~ at small group tonight we were discussing James chapter 3. On the way home in the car Ian and I were chatting about some of the negative things that have been said to us our about us, even back to childhood, that have been engrained in our minds forever. HUGE reminder to control the tongue with our children! One of mine was that a kid on my soccer team in the 4th grade called me a name that some of the rest of the team picked up on and even as a grown woman in my 30s I can't shake the negative self image. I shared that name with Ian and he reminded me that he thought I was beautiful).
Kylie (tuning in to the conversation in the front seat) ~ "Daddy, am I boo-ti-full?"
Ian ~ "Yes, boo, you are beautiful!"
Kylie ~ "Mommy is boo-ti-full and I am boo-ti-full!"
Caleb ~ "I no boo-full, I hansom!"
Me ~ "Yes, Caleb, you are a very handsome boy. And Daddy is handsome too!"
Kylie ~ "Daddy is handsome, Caleb is handsome, Mommy and me are boo-ti-full!"
Caleb ~ "Momma boo-ful."
Me ~ "Thank you Caleb."
Caleb ~ "Momma boo-ful. Momma boo-ful. Momma boo-ful!"
Me ~ "Thanks buddy, you are so sweet!"
Caleb ~ (giggling that mischeiveous giggle) "Momma boo-ful, Maya boo-ful!"
Me ~ "Maya is beautiful?"
Caleb ~ (still giggling) "No, Maya not boo-ful."
Kylie ~ (in that matter of fact voice) "No, Maya isn't boo-ti-full, (now switching to full giggle mode) she's doggy boo-ti-ful!"
Thanks for clearing that up kiddo!
Here's hoping you have deep conversations in your commute too!

Very sweet~ We are working hard at defining beauty from the inside, but it's a tough one.
It is such fun listening to them and see how their little minds work. These will be good memories!

So Sweet.
Aww! Your kids melt my heart! You have a boo-tiful family, including Maya!
That just warms my heart. You all are such 'boo-ti-ful' people. I love you so much.

So sweet. And such great positive words for little kids - there are enough negative things out there - it's great they see everyone as "bootiful" just as God made us - even puppy-dogs!
Cant wait to see pictures from the reunion... I tried not to think about all of you being together this weekend.
I love those car conversations. :)
I'm so glad you recorded this not just for them but for us as well....too sweet!
