My "little big" man

**It's a "Two-fer" Sunday, be sure to check out the previous post about "all things Kylie" right now. Oh and if you haven't seen it yet, please be sure to scroll down to "Matchies" and read the latest family news (and leave us some love). Trust me, it's worth the time!**

One day I looked at this precious little boy that lives in my house and realized that he wasn't a baby anymore... And before I forget any more of the little things he does and says, I'm getting some of them down.
All of the sudden this little guy has discovered that he is entertaining. If I hear, "Hey Mommy, watch yis!" once a day, I hear it at least fifty! Sometimes he does a quick little spin on his heel, sometimes he makes a silly face, sometimes he jumps on one foot, and sometimes (my personal favorite) he sings a song. And if I'm not readily available for entertaining, or if he just impressed me with his amazing wonders, the next words I hear are "Hey Daddy" or "Hey Ky-yee watch yis."
My rough and tumble boy has also started to further develop his sweet and tender side. He's picked up on a little game that he has heard Kylie and play over and over again. Just this month he's started answering my question of, "Hey, you know what?" with "You yuhv me and I yuhv you tuuh!" The best part is that he follows it with a sloppy kiss.
He's also recently shown just how well he understands what we say. I no longer have to use "shortened requests" or speak slowly to him. For example this morning I told him, "Go to your room and pick one of the shirts I had hanging on your closet door to wear to church and put it on please." He left the bathroom where I was drying my hair, went to his room, picked the shirt and had it halfway over his head before he came back. I can also ask him (usually when we are standing in the kitchen about to head out the door and I realize that he isn't wearing shoes) if he wants his crocs or his flip flops and then to go get the shoes he wants. He'll think about it, tell me which ones he wants, run down the hall to his room and come back wearing the shoes ~ about 75% of the time on the correct feet!
Caleb is one of the most animated kids I know. If he isn't stealing the show in the room it is because of one of two reasons ~ he's either sleeping or he's sick. Right now his favorite thing to do is sing "Crinkle, crinkle yit-uhl tar, how I wonner what you ahr!" And if he feels like you aren't listening, he'll start singing louder...
For the longest time Caleb was "too busy" to concentrate on much that could be considered "academic" like recognizing colors, shapes, and letters. But Kylie found a set of bathtub letters to play with in the tub and I guess he's been listening in a different setting. Yesterday I gave the kids a bath and Caleb grabbed the letter "O" and said, "Yook Mommy, OOOO!" And then he correctly identified "C" and "D" as well.
The thing that amazes me most is that if we hadn't trusted God and walked through the door He opened for us concerning "special needs" kids that we would have missed this...

Amen, sister.

I can't wait to give that boy a big hug and kiss when I see him in DC! Start preparing him now, okay? I'll bring potato chips.

Caleb is one little boy that is pushing me hard to consider returning to China. Each time I think about how "different" it would be to have a boy in the house (vs. two girls that together make as much noise and chaos), I remember this little guy and I am (almost) ready to go again! ;-)

And I think that same thought so often. I think about those who make even a sometimes seemingly unconscious choice to NOT trust God...and all that they miss.

Our God is so amazing! That He makes each one of so unique. Our world is sweeter because Caleb is in it. I thank God that you two listened and obeyed. What a blessing!

great post and what a handsome boy you have there. I like that he loves crinkle little tar too. Maddy sings it just that way and when we aren't listening.. she gets louder too. :0)
These children definitely are blessings from God. I'm so happy we listened to his calling for us
