Mei Mei's story ~ part 1

To fully tell the whole story I need to back up 12 years. (By the way, just as a fun bit of Ian & Kristi trivia, we met 13 years ago today on the front porch of the lodge at Camp Loy White.) Ian and I had been dating for about a year in the summer of '97 and I had taken a job as a live in nanny up in Maryland so that we could date like normal folks for a few months. At that point we both pretty much knew that we'd be getting married someday and we found ourselves daydreaming about our future together. Even then we talked of having a big family ~ Ian's exact words were that he wanted at least 9 children, "enough to field a baseball team."

All that to say that we always hoped to have many kids, though over the years we've scaled the number back to three or four...

Anyway, back in October ~ I'm not sure of the exact day, but I do know that it was after we moved here, but BEFORE we traveled to meet Caleb, so it was between the 11th and the 22nd ~ I had a dream that we had another daughter and I heard myself calling her name. There were two reasons that I sorta blew the dream off. One ~ and perhaps the most obvious ~ we were days away from traveling to meet our SON. Two ~ we weren't "pre-name pickers."

If you've been around long enough, you'll remember that we had Kylie's referral for nearly a week before we settled on a name. And with Caleb, we never thought about boy names ahead of time, but the second I saw his face I knew that he was a Caleb.

I was perplexed because here I was with this dream of a beautiful little girl (who was standing right next to Kylie and Caleb) and I had a name, but I also had the challenge of preparing for our life to change by adding a second, mobile child. So I stored the dream of having another daughter and her name in my heart because I truly believe that God speaks to us in many ways (including dreams and children).

And when we finally found her, there was no doubt that we'd name her Darcy...

**Aargh, Ian needs his computer back for the evening ~ here's hoping that Dell will finish with mine quickly!

This is not very nice but I love her name! I'll be praying that Dell hurries so we can get on with the rest of the story!

Doesn't Ian realize there are more pressing matters at stake here... like meeting the needs of over anxious adoptive parents who want to vicariously follow along on another's adoptive journey by hearing THE WHOLE story!?!

Wow, I should be in bed. Can't wait to hear more!
