Fine table manners (or not)...

We closed down the zoo on Saturday and the kids were asleep within minutes of getting strapped into their seats. We decided against a meal out (for fear that overtired children could cause the dreaded "ungraceful restaurant exit") and pulled into our driveway to the chorus of a tired Kylie saying, "Mommy, what for supper? My beddy hungy!" We had everything on hand, so spaghetti seemed to be a no brainer...

Kylie, Ian and I happily dug in, but our stubborn son held out despite the fact that he LOVES noodles and that he ate spaghetti sauce at my mom's last Sunday. I decided that the way to beat stubborn was with more stubborn, so I refused to offer him anything else to eat except some cut up veggies from our salad. I'm not sure if sheer hunger, or the desire to partake in some cantaloupe for dessert finally made him break down, but as we were getting ready to clean up the dishes, he finally decided to take a taste. And that was all it took...

(Please do click to enlarge this picture and get an idea of why he went straight to the tub!)

His bowl had been full and he wolfed it down (though not neatly) and then asked for more. I'm pretty glad we had stripped him down before he started!

Kylie has also been expressing her food opinions lately! On the way home from church yesterday Kylie asked Ian if we were going home. He answered yes as we had several different left-overs that I didn't want to waste. She replied, "I don't want to go home, I want to go to a res-taunt!" Perhaps she got used to eating out frequently with all our meals out during our "stay-cation?"

Despite her request to go out, she was thrilled when she learned that we were having (leftover) taco soup and quesadillas for lunch. She enjoyed her cheesy tortilla wedges so much that she began double fisting!
"Mmm, mmm, duhd!"

I know what you mean about not being a short order cook for a picky eater, it's good that Caleb finally did eat, it looks as though he enjoyed it! you know once he had control, er uh I mean gave in and ate :)

We could work on some table manners around here too. Though it looks like Kylie has hers down, I mean the double fisting isn't wrong, right? Boy it sure is cute!!!

I love it! So, just some patience from you and Ian made Caleb decide it was time to eat! It sure looks like he enjoyed that spaghetti AND canteloupe - I bet bath time was a lot of fine!!!

There is no other way to eat pasta!! And Kylie asking for a "res-taunt" is SO funny! We've been eating out alot lately over the holiday's with family get-to-gethers and such, and Anne Marie said the EXACT same thing after Church on Sunday... She was mad we were going home!!

Good golly - that spaghetti must have been delish!!! :-) Wouldn't it be fun to be able to eat like that again once in a while?

Way to hang in there, Kristi! The struggle may not be over, but you are making good progress. Love how much he enjoys good food. He has lots of time to learn neatness. Kylie will be a good role model (as she already is in so many ways).
