...but someone ate zucchini last night!
Okay, so the zucchini was grated and mixed with biscuit mix, a little Parmesan cheese, egg, and pepper and then grilled like a pancake (think potato pancake, just not as crispy) but the kid actually ate an entire one and then asked for another! The entire family (including Maya ~ she knows that Caleb is a messy eater...) enjoyed them, so we may have found a veggie that works for us for a while. Ian and I kept saying, "Don't look at him, don't pay too much attention..."
**(Oh, as I was getting something out of the fridge for my lunch ~ the kids fell asleep in the car on the way home from our morning outing ~ I noticed that we had corn on the cob and remembered that I perhaps didn't tell the exact truth yesterday when I said that there is no vegetable Caleb would eat. He will put a hurting on corn on the cob ~ don't give it to him unless it is still on the cob by the way ~ and of course he eats fries, but I don't really consider either corn or fries a vegetable. In my nutrition book those are both starches).**
Now back to dinner last night. He ate one tiny bite of his chicken, turned his nose up at the steamed broccoli, and here is what he did with his macaroni and cheese...Yep, the little turkey would load up his fork, laugh (and if you haven't heard his laugh yet, you're missing out!), wipe it off into a different section of his plate, and then do it again. (Mom, remind you of anyone else you know ~ well, I did at least eat mine after I loaded the fork!) Not one noodle went into his mouth, but he sure had fun!
And monkey see, monkey do held true the reverse way in our house last night. Little Miss Kylie, who until about 6:30 pm last night always inhaled macaroni and cheese without thinking about it became a "Kylie-cat!"Last night Ian got stuck in traffic on his way home due to the torrential rain and in a last ditch effort to keep the kids out of the kitchen while I was finishing up the dinner preparations (it's such a pain to be cooking and have the fridge lock that almost keeps me out in place!) I asked Kylie if she wanted to watch a movie (meaning a Dora, Kai Lan, or Care Bears DVD). While they were napping I had been watching the Food Network and it was still on as background noise while I grated zucchini and cut the chicken. She said, "No mommy, I want to keep watching the cooking show. I'll sit down and watch it, I promise!" And she did. (Yes, we have cable again now that Ian has a job. Oh Food Network, how I missed you!)
Another Kylie funny... Ian gives the kids their bath each night (we find we are using more water than ever before ~ we used to bathe Kylie only every other night, but that is simply not an option with our other messy eater...) to give me a few minutes to relax and he gets some extra time with them. Well I didn't realize that bath time was coming to an end and went for a handful out of my secret stash. Just as I had dumped the chocolate and peanut butter morsels into my mouth, Ian comes out and hands me my "Ky-rito" (which is what we call Kylie when she is wrapped up in her towel like a burrito) and I'm still chewing. NOT GOOD!!! Kylie immediately says, "What's in your mouf mommy?" I quickly finish chewing, swallow (no time to savor the delicious taste now), open my mouth, and reply, "Nothing." Not yet sold, Kylie says, "Lemme smell your bref!" So I swallow several times, distract her by asking to smell hers, and manage to swallow a glass of water before obliging her with smelling mine. Man that was TOO CLOSE because that girl is good, she knows chocolate breath when she smells it! And then I would have had to divulge her in my little secret...
This picture was taken on a different night, but it serves well right here. It shows my Ky-rito, and it gives an idea of what her face would look like if she knew there was a bowl full of "emmies" in the house that she couldn't have!

Love the Ky-rito! We may be getting rid of cable in January. I'm torn cuz I love the Food Network too! Nothing like Paula Deen, y'all!
Can you tell me where you found them cute plates. I must have one for my daughter. Also love the smell your breath. I always say my daughter can smell chocolate a mile away.
First of all...that is CLEVER about that zucchini!! I think I'm going to try that recipe! Second, I have a stash too! We have this really off shaped drawer next to my stove. Its a tiny little drawer and no one ever uses it. Except me for my "stash" storage! Although,my stash consists of Hot Tamales and Sour patch kids! Oh, and candy canes. That Kylie is a girl after my own heart!!
Have you tried veggies with the Ramen noodles yet?? Emmi Su will eat them with Ramen noodles, and if it makes you feel better she'll eat almost any veggie on her plate now, just a mere few months after being home. Now I can just throw them in with Ramen noodles before, they went in the blender first!
The kids plates, along with the clothing that dosen't come from Carter's or consignment, is from Target of course!
Caleb, Caleb, Caleb...you gotta watch that mommy of yours! She's SO sneaky!
And I am LAUGHING OUT LOUD at the smelling the breath thing! That might as well have been Caroline...so savvy! We have some witty girls on our hands. Good cover job, though!
And, OF COURSE, corn and fries are vegetables. Silly girl...
Oh my gosh that is the best picture of Ky-rito! (To aunt Cici that is a snausage) Hillarious! It made me chuckle out loud! Good thing no one is around or they would think I was nuts! I miss my bugs!
Aunt cici
Oh my gosh, seriously, we are all alike, aren't we? First of all, I hide food and get caught by Allison all the time- "I smell chocolate!", she'll say. I play dumb. Then there's the mac and cheese- she used to load up a fork too- not like anyone teaches them that- weird! And when Allison is wrapped up with a towel we call her our little papoose. I love the Ky-rito, though- funny! :)
Horray for zucchini! I'll have to remember that when Caleb is at my house. Remember that he likes the egg rolls that Aunt CiCi had as well. What a fun way to play with the mac n cheese - too bad he wouldn't eat it after inventing such a neat way to put it on his fork! The expression on Ky-rito's face is priceless!
