Do you know what this means?

Yes, that would be a hospital admitting bracelet (shown stylishly on Kylie's ankle).

Friday evening I had my first solo ER visit with Kylie (we had to take her last year when she smashed her finger in a door at the kennel). My sweet girl was being silly, dancing around the living room when she bumped into the couch. It was really a gentle bump, but across the room I heard a loud "POP," and she immediately began wailing. These crazed screams were coming from a girl that had cut her head open on our fireplace hearth and barely whimpered, so I knew that she was in serious pain. Because of how she was holding her arm, how funny her elbow looked, and my experience with "nursemaid's elbow" from cousin Adam and goddaughter Anah, I suspected that she had dislocated her elbow.

I called Ian (who was still in the office ~ 2 1/2 hours across the state) and asked if the ER was my only option. Given the time of day ~ 6:15pm ~ we decided that was the best course of action and I headed to the hospital for my second visit in four days. Of course I ran into the nurse that had taken care of Mama on Tuesday...

One thing I will say though, take a toddler screaming in pain into the ER, and they will see you quickly! We were taken into an exam room before they had even taken my insurance card. A few minutes later we were taken to X-ray and during her intense struggle there (my girl LOATHES being restrained) she pulled her arm while it was being held down, we heard a small pop, and she suddenly (after an hour of solid crying) got quiet, smiled and said, "My boo-boo's bedder now!"

Less than 1 1/2 hours after we rushed in, we were headed out to get some dinner. What a night! You know, I could use a little less excitement in my life right now...

You'll want to be careful with that arm from now on. My Maura had that problem and it only got easier for it to happen. In all, I think it happened 4-5 times before she outgrew it!

Glad that's all it was!

Good gravy, girl! What next?!

I can only imagine how much that hurts. Jon dislocated his shoulder a long time ago, and let's just say there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth! I was SO glad when they knocked him out and popped it back in place!

Poor Kylie...give her a big hug and kiss for me. Poor Mommy...give HER a big hug and kiss from me.

Ditto Cindy with the good gravy comment! Seriously, things need to get calmer around your house, not more crazy. Those silly toddlers- they don't take a break just because OUR world is spinning out of control! Hugs to you both!

How hard to see you in so much pain, Kylie. Grandma knew that it had to be something very wrong for you to be crying so hard. I am always amazed at how you can fall or bump into something and just brush it off. I'm thankful that it was a dislocation and not a break. Poor Ian, being so far away when he could hear his precious daughter crying over the phone. I thank God that he made it home quickly and joined us for dinner afterwards (at least, for dessert!). This is more confirmation that you three need to be together all week - not just on weekends. I love you,

Yikes... this gives me pain just thinking about it. I can hear the screams in my mind and I am sure it was not fun. Praise the Lord that she can forget so quickly and tell you it is all better. What a salve for your soul!!
What would we have to write about if we did not have kids?
Blessings girl!!
