Turkey? YES!!! Butternut Squash? Not so much...

It is now surreal to think that there was a time before Kylie came into our lives, yet on Thanksgiving day last year we still were waiting for a glimpse of the child that was matched with us to become a family. "And now here we are a mere 357 days later with the child that completes us.
This year we celebrated our first day to give thanks as a family of three. We slept late and then Ian fixed us a good breakfast (so we could skip lunch in preparation for our feast) of bacon, eggs, and toast. Of course we had to eat in the living room so that we could watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade! Kylie was enthralled with the balloons, but kept losing attention when the singers came on ~ can't say that I blame her, I did too!

After the parade was over, we continued to be lazy around the house. Kylie pushed her dolls around (they now sit side by side in the little stroller ~ wonder if any company has started making double doll strollers?) and took good care of them offering drinks, food, and most importantly hugs! (We also witnessed her sucking her Asian baby's thumb at one point ~ too cute for words!) It was so nice to have some down time with my hubby and my girl! Then it was time to get the turkey in the oven and start the potatoes...

Around 4 we loaded into the car with a 14 pound turkey, a pan of Gratin Dauphinois (the creamy potato dish our English speaking church served the Americans for Thanksgiving dinner when we lived in France), a pumpkin crisp dessert, the three of us, and of course Maya, and headed to Mama's for our Thanksgiving dinner. We were joined by Traci and Adam, Ian's mom, my cousin Tricia and her three kids and all the best dishes that each of them make. We had enough food to feed twice the number of people that were there, but let me tell you it was delicious!!! Kylie again ate an amazing amount of turkey...

but wasn't too happy about the butternut squash (honestly, she loved squash when she was still eating baby food ~ I thought she'd like it!)

After dinner we rolled ourselves into the living room to sit and talk for a while. Aunt Traci had brought some small toys for the little kids. Kylie's favorite was the lip gloss and she had a blast digging her fingers into the heart shaped locket and smearing it on at will...

When I saw the color I tried to wipe it off her lips, but she wasn't thrilled about that and it wasn't coming off easily. It was at that point that I figured "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em," and let her apply lip gloss to my lips too!

Man oh man, do we have plenty to be thankful for! Thank you God for sending us this beautiful, spunky, sweet child to be part of our family!!!
