Baby food is so yesterday around here...
Let me rephrase that, Kylie still gets most of her nutrition from stage two Gerber. It would be tough to call a favorite among carrots, sweet potatoes and squash. Those are about the only single foods that she likes anymore. Green beans, peas, bananas and peaches were all popular for the first week or so, but now she turns her nose up at the thought of one mere flavor going into her discerning mouth at a time. Beyond her orange veggies, she LOVES the garden vegetable and mixed vegetable blends. And give this girl any fruit blend, especially if it has berries in it. She can't eat the apples with blueberries fast enough. I can't wait until summer when blueberries should be affordable to eat fresh!
But this girl is getting brave at trying new foods off mommy and daddy's plates. And mommy is getting braver at giving her bite sized pieces instead of teency-tiny bites of "real food." She's also mastering the art of getting bites of finger food to her mouth. Doesn't she look proud of herself eating her scrambled egg? (And she did eat the whole thing! Poor Maya ~ she thought she was going to be on clean-up crew under the highchair). And then there was lunch yesterday. (Cindy, I'm posting this picture for you. Does it remind you of anyone at Lucy's?) I met Mama, Carol and Sara for lunch at South 21. My sandwich came with fries, so I ate a couple and was proud of myself for not scarfing down the entire portion. Kylie cleaned up her garden vegetables and her apple-pear-banana fruit mix, so I let her try a few bites of fry. Next thing I knew she had snatched one off my plate. Oh well, at least it isn't her favorite vegetable, yet...
While I was fixing dinner I cut up some apple for me to snack on and Kylie acted interested. So I offered and she happily accepted! After eating her mixed vegetables and then the peaches and pears that I mixed together, she chowed down on steamed broccoli with cheese melted on top. Today she discovered fresh bananas when I made myself a peanut butter/banana sandwich. She reminded me of a little bird popping its mouth open for its Mama.
I should add here that Kylie LOVES cottage cheese, yo-baby yogurt, cucumbers, and dill pickles. So if she comes to visit you, you'd be her new favorite person if you had one of those to offer...
