One of my favorite things about where we live is the easy access to places that make you forget you live in one of the state's most populated areas.
Just a short drive from downtown is a historic grist mill that offers birding hikes around the lake, demonstrations of how the mill works, and a general sense of peace and wonder.
On a winter morning that felt like spring, we took a few minutes to watch rainbow fragments in the waterfall after a birding hike.
