social distancing {week four ~ M8 kids cook!}

Today marks two weeks since the governor's official stay at home order, but for us it's now been four weeks.  The days are somewhat blending together, but overall we've found a bit of a rhythm.

Sidewalk chalk has continued to provide a creative outlet for the girls.  They filled up our driveway and sidewalk, so they moved on to Marlowe and Robby's driveway for another canvas.

Ian and I continue our long walks...especially on the weekends.  It's not uncommon for us to be gone well over an hour...at this point there aren't many streets in our community that we haven't wandered.  Frequently we find ourselves going by the school.  I miss this place!

As we're getting into experimenting with bread making, I was given the recipe for homemade pretzels from a friend.

They turned out pretty good...even if our twisting skill levels varied.

Spoons has become a family favorite.  At this point I am seen as public enemy #1 because I have yet to get a letter.  My *sweet* family is ganging up on me...

Reading.  It could be said there is a bit of that going on around here.  Unfortunately we missed hitting up the library to restock before it closed.  But Ian pointed out that we have yet to put gas in my car, so we're switching that budget line item to cover the cost of books.

During this time we're creating our own version of a "school day" but we're also extending education to include life skills.

Nat's planned dinner ~ she selected the menu items, read the recipes, created a grocery list and then prepared the meal ~ was meatloaf, mashed potatoes and zucchini and onions.

I've also encouraged everyone to get comfortable with baking.  At this point each of the crew has leafed through my baking recipe binder and done at least one dessert from start to finish.  Caleb's speciality is chocolate chip blondies.

The schedule of each day includes some recess/PE time.  We're especially thankful for lovely spring weather and the slack line!
