We were at Mom's for Christmas and had gone down earlier than usual because of where Christmas fell in the week. That meant we didn't have time before to have our "little family Christmas" until the day after when we were home.
This year we had a pretty big surprise for the crew. Partly because we wanted to ensure Nicholas got his dream of experiencing a place he'd heard his siblings talk about often before his surgery, partly because Ian and I love it so much.
The kids got a few smaller gifts from us, but the last one they all opened at the same time was a doozy! My sweet friend Melissa printed up letters from Professor McGonagall inviting them to come to Hogwarts on January 29.
Going to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter had long been on their list of things to experience and as the meaning of what they read sank in, there was "just a little" excitement. A gift certificate to select an interactive wand from Ollivander's capped the elation.

...and one for their second surprise, five days at Disney!
Christmas 2018 will likely go down as one of the most exciting in the M8 house!
