Ian and I spent the fall/winter/spring of '03 & '04 living in Grenoble, France. During that time we spent several weeks in 'the city of lights' for Ian to attend conferences. In the mornings we'd metro into the center of the city together and then he'd attend his conference, leaving me to explore the city.
I grew tremendously in my self confidence in those days, visiting landmarks (like the Arc de Triumphe, this photo is the result of timid me asking ~ in French! ~ a fellow tourist to take my picture), spending hours walking along the Seine, discovering side streets, sipping coffee in delightful cafes and sampling fondue in hidden restaurants to share later in the evenings with Ian.
I'll always have fond memories of my time in Paris, and my heart is deeply saddened as I continue to process what has happened there over the past few hours. My prayers are with the people of that great city tonight.
