three years of "Darcyness"

Can it be?

Three years already?

Those initial moments are forever etched in my mind.

Timid curiosity at first over the two children who looked like her that came bounding into the room with the two adults that didn't.  Shyly reaching for the colorful candies I offered.

Then the struggle when I held her for the first time.  A little girl wanting to be anywhere but in my arms.

The look of inconsolable sadness in her eyes as it became clear to her that no one in the room understood what she was trying to tell us.

The feeling of my heart shattering along with hers...

And then?

A glimmer of hope.

The first smile...

...followed by the first laugh.

So thankful I had stuck a princess flip phone in my pocket at the last second before we left our hotel room a family of four.

It truly was the ice breaker.

By the time we got back to the room, she had established herself firmly as part of the M5.

By morning on the 21st, her official adoption day, it was clear that the process of her heart being mended had begun.

She walked into our family and never looked back.

Three years later I stand in awe of realizing more fully what a blessing we received that day.  DQ, the M family is richer for having you in it.  You really are smart as a whip, sweet as honey and cute as a button.  That smile of yours radiates happiness to all in your path.  You exude pure joy and have such a precious spirit about you.  You look out for others and truly exemplify the Golden Rule.

I am eternally grateful that God led us to you and look forward to see the mighty ways He uses you to bring a little more Heaven to this earth.

Happy three years sweet girl!

How can it be three years? She has grown up so much but it is crazy how much the glimmer in her eyes and that cute grin have stayed the same.

I write this as tears of joy run down my cheeks onto my shirt. Darcy, sweet Darcy. It seems that you have always been in our family. Know that God had a place for you in our hearts before your Mommy and Daddy ever met you. You have been a delightful part of your "forever" family. I love you.
