and a half

'Round these parts (meaning in our house), "and a half" is a pretty big deal.

And since we have two who recently joined the 1/2 ranks, tonight we finished dinner as quickly as we could in order to go celebrate.

5 1/2 as of yesterday.
3 1/2 as of march 2.
I'm sure anyone who really knows me is picking their jaw up off the floor that we missed celebrating the boys on their actual half birthdays.

Let me explain myself...

For Caleb it was pretty obvious.

His half birthday fell on Easter this year.  Plain and simple.

There were plenty of sweets and treats from the Peeps passed out at the children's sermon to the chocolate bunnies given by Sunday school teachers to the candy in Easter eggs to our Resurrection Rolls to signify an empty tomb.  We were on the road last night to come home from Mama's house.  And honestly, he was pretty content to take a backseat to celebrating Jesus yesterday.  When asked what his favorite part of Easter was, he replied, "The eggs and stuff were fun, but I liked the part that Jesus came back alive so we can know about him and share his love."

Daniel though?

Well, the reason we celebrated his half over a month late is a bit more complicated.

You see, his actual day was the day we pointed the van south and headed for Florida.  We never saw a doughnut shop on the way.  And since we spent a week with the mouse and had lots of yummy treats while we were there, we were just gonna let it slide.  After all, the girls both celebrated "whole birthdays" down there and we never even had a cupcake to further commemorate the event back home.  Guess we sorta fell into the, "Well, you were at Disney..." mentality.

Then I heard one of my kids correcting me when I told someone that Daniel was 3 1/2.

"No he isn't Mommy.  We didn't go get doughnuts.  So he's only 3."

And so tonight we made it official.

We had sprinkles.

We watched the doughnut process from mixing the dough to the frosting bath.

We sang Happy half birthday to two very special boys.

We licked our fingers.

And since there were two boys to celebrate, we may have had two doughnuts.

Each.

Double fisted even...

But that part is our little secret.

Love that the kids thought Daniel wasn't 3 1/2 because you hadn't had doughnuts yet. That's priceless! :-)

Okay, I'm done with the sunshine. I'll trade it all for a glazed circle of happiness at this moment. Goodness those look delicious! Happy HALF birthday boys!

Good things my little boys cannot read this blog, ha! They would for sure be wondering WHY O WHY they don't go to Krispy Kreme on their 1/2 birthday for TWO doughnuts. :) HA! And really the reason I don't celebrate 1/2 birthdays .. is I am in complete denial that they any of my kids, are in fact getting ANY OLDER. Celebrating 1/2 way through the year would just reinforce that they indeed 1/2 way to the next year, boo hoo. :) But on your blog, with your kids getting older, I love it, ha! Looks like fun was had by all.

Better late than never! I'm sure they will forgive you one day! Tell Caleb that his wink is better than mine... I have finally learned how to wink after 22 years of living, but that doesn't by any means, mean that I am good at it! Some of my students make fun of me..! Miss you guys. And happy half birthdays boys!

This is completely unrelated, but is there any place as wonderful as Krispy Kreme?! Their doughnuts could make angels sing. What a great place to celebrate!
