the sitter

We've got a pretty adorable crew.

AND they are even pretty well behaved.

But there are four of them.  And the oldest is still a bit shy of turning six.  And while they all get along amazingly well, the boys may fight just a wee bit from time to time.  So finding a teenage sitter ~ that we can afford for four hours ~ willing to take them on, especially in the middle of the week isn't exactly easy.

Last night though, we needed help because Ian's company avoids adding to scheduling chaos in December.  And the holiday party is in January.  On a Wednesday.  And while it is rather exciting to get all dressed up and go attend a fancy cocktail party and dinner with the one who still brings me flowers on a date night,
we do have this adorable crew to consider.

So we called in one of the best sitters we know.  And boy howdy did she prove her worth!
One not so fun aspect of date night is getting dinner together for the kiddos before leaving.  No problem last night though.   Not only did she take care of feeding them, she took them out, by herself, to Pei Wei for dinner.

And they were so well behaved there (after receiving a slew of compliments from other customers) that she decided to treat them to dessert at a nearby yogurt bar.

Yeah, one of those places where you serve your own yogurt and then top it yourself from a crazy amount of candies, fruits and syrups.  I don't even take them there by myself.  Heck, Ian and I consider it a challenge to go there when the ratio is 1 to 2, but she took on the odds of 1 to 4.

Oh, and did I mention that all four kids had a bath and were sleeping soundly in their beds when we got home.

She just smiled at our wide eyes when she told us about their evening.  I guess there is something to a Grandmother's touch after all...
mom with the kids back in september
So those of you back home, don't be surprised when Mom doesn't show up on Saturday as planned.  We're hiding her keys.  She doesn't know it yet, but she's moving in...

I know I've said this before - but your mom totally rocks!!! (and if she ever has a hankering to come a little further south, you know where to send her....)

What a fun story, Kristi! I loved it! No doubt Grandma's are the best sitters around! My mom is coming for a visit next month, and although there won't be any date nights (hubby going to China), I'm guessing I might get a night out all by myself, which I'll take! :)

I was trying to envision how old the teenager was! Love Grandma's! What would we do without them?!
Hope you enjoyed your night out (and free dinner to boot)!

What a blessing! I so miss living in the same town as my parents. I didn't realize how much I took it for granted until it is gone. Now, my mom will drive over if something big comes up but it's not the same. And it is so difficult, like you said, to find someone responsible enough, brave enough, and affordable enough to handle such a task. Def and Grandmother's job! :)
