A sweet day

Far too often, December becomes a month that makes us groan as our calendars become overloaded with appointments, parties and various commitments.  The beginning of this month was like that for us.  But thanks to some careful planning ~ back in November we blocked off the 17th as a family day ~ we ended up with one weekend all to ourselves.

December 17 was a pajama kind of day filled with all things sweet.  The oven went on early in the morning and was off after midnight with only two brief off interludes. (Once for an afternoon bike ride and once for a trip to a live "drive-thru" nativity).

There was butter to unwrap ~ to the tune of 16, yes sixteen, sticks that got transformed into cookies.

There were eggs to crack ~ with a little help from Daddy of course.

Candy canes were pounded.

And questions were asked.

for the record, most of those questions would have been to see if it were time to taste yet...
All in all, about 30 dozen cookies were mixed and baked that day.

Oh...and the pretzels.

We really can't forget the pretzels!

About 100 pretzel rods were bathed in chocolate,

and then sprinkled,

sprinkled,

and sprinkled some more.

Each was a completed masterpiece.

There were mass amounts of sugar converted into sweet treats that day.  Crazy amounts I'm tellin' ya!  But by far the sweetest part of the day?
