Sunday Snapshot {Ladybug spotting at "armslide park"}

I do officially love fall.  The crispness in the air, the colors of the leaves, pumpkin flavored products crowding into the bakeries and stores...

All of it that is, except for the dreaded loss of daylight.

The sun going down so much earlier sure makes that two hours between 4 and 6 (from when Ky gets home from school until Ian gets home from work so we can eat supper) seem like a long time.

A really long time.

Make that an eternity.

After suffering from "early darkness syndrome with two energetic brothers in the house" on Monday, I decided to take matters into my own hands.  Tuesday would require a totally different tactic.  So during nap time I got as much dinner prep done as I could and only stopped by the house after school to allow Ky to change out of her school clothes.  My plan of action was then to hit the kids' beloved "armslide park" and let them play either until it got too dark to see or I got a call from Ian saying he was on his way home.

Now, changing clothes is what my girls seem to do best, so of course DQ wanted to get out of her tunic and leggings when she caught wind of what her big sister was doing.  I heard giggles from upstairs ~ as I stood in the doorway to watch the boys riding their bikes on the sidewalk in front of the house ~ and then had to bite my tongue as they came bounding down the stairs in their ladybug getup from last Halloween.

I almost sent them back upstairs to change.

And then I thought about it.

They are five and four.  The costumes are in the dress up box and pretty much too small anyway.  If they want to put on their little red wings and pretend to fly as they slide down the "armslide," who am I to stop them?

They had a wonderful time as ladybug twins.

Besides, I got a lot of knowing smiles from the ladybug spotting at "armslide park" that day.

And yeah, if you are wondering, Caleb helped pick out the boys' outfits...

You made the absolutey right decision on not making the girls change. These days won't last forever!

You go mama! I always look for ways to say yes, even when my brain screams no! These are the important things. The ones they will always remember.

What cute little ladybugs and all stars you have!

I'm not a fan of the early darkness, but I do like going to work in the beginnings of day light instead of the pitch dark. Darn early start time at my school!

Love the outfits and love a Mom who isn't ashamed to take her kids to the park that way!

From someone far North of you, I agree!

Love that you took note of your own change of heart. That's the reality behind the scenes some days.

And wow! Those ladybugs are way cuter than the average old insect!

Handsome football players and beautiful ladybugs. So happy you chose to let them dress that way. We all have to learn to pick our battles and not saying "no" too much. Love all of you.
