Sunday Snapshot {she's known her longer}

Before she knew me, my big girl knew her.

Sunday
Ky and K were roommates ~ with their cribs next to one another ~ in their orphanage in southern China.  They have a long history.  And somehow, they seem to sense it.  Oh, it takes a few minutes when they first see one another, but there is a deep connection.

And we feel that way about their entire family.

While we may not be able to get them together quite as often as we'd like, we have been blessed that we've been able to get these two together an average of twice a year since they met their families in February 2007.

February 6, 2007 ~ adoption day
K's family is a very special family in our lives.  Their oldest, M, came along on the trip to meet K.  M was our travel group's little sweetheart, especially on those days that we were enjoying Beijing, but really wanting to get to our girls...  K's parents were so helpful, and so NOT judging, to Ian and I in those initial days when we were fumbling with the new responsibilities of parenting.  Our families "just clicked" from the beginning.

Luckily they've lived reasonably close to Ian's dad for the past 4 1/2 years.  On most of our trips up, we've found a way to carve at least a few hours out for visiting with them.  This time it was attending their church and then lunch.  With six kids all under the age of eight, we were smart enough not to attempt a fancy establishment.

Mickey D's was the perfect spot for we parents to catch up and for our kids to play together while we did.  Well, perfect except for the fact that the air in the play area was broken.  (Course we did note that the sauna like conditions were simply training for Guangzhou in late June).  Sweaty doesn't even begin to describe our kids after all the climbing they did.

But they did it together.  All six of them.  Even though it was our first time meeting their newest addition.

Our time with the B family is always too short.  This visit was no exception.  And while there was excitement in our parting ways ~ we have a reunion with Ky's travel group early next month ~ there was also some sadness as K's family will be moving to the West coast later this summer.

Somehow though, I suspect that between letters, Skype, and eventually email, these two will hang on to the special bond they share.

After all, they do go waaaay back.

Don't know what Sunday Snapshot is?  Stefanie, the creator, describes it as:

"Sunday Snapshot is just a way to capture that special someone or something right now, because we all know time is fleeting... right now will be a distant memory before we know it!"

How very, very special! You can totally see their connection in that first picture! We have a reunion coming in July, and I can't wait. It's just so wonderful to get our kiddos together with their first friends! :)

That is so great that you have been able to see each other's families twice a year. That is sad that they will be moving but I'm sure the girls will always be in touch. How special!

That is so special! We are trying to keep in touch with the other families we traveled to province with at least, but no of our girls came from the same orphanage. I know that has GOT to be so special to share that. :)
