Here at the M house, we are deep in the throes of moving.

(Did I forget to mention that before?  Oh.  Well...we're moving.  I hadn't mentioned it because up until about 10 days ago, it was still uncertain.  Our old house has had three, yes three closings scheduled that have fallen through.  Most recent one today.  Supposed to close tomorrow ~ same day we close on our new place here.  It's been one heck of a ride...)

We're only going 1.6 miles down the road this time.  But still, we're up to our eyeballs in boxes.  As I've been sorting through contents of closets, drawers, and toy bins, I've noticed just how much stuff we have accumulated here in this cozy little home in 2 1/2 years.  And it got me to thinkin'...

Mother's Day is just around the corner.  And I was just at my mom's house where she too has a lot of stuff.  Which got me to thinkin' more.  What if instead of buying her more stuff, we did something in her honor for some of 'the least of these?'

Yesterday as I read the blog entry at An Orphan's Wish, I knew exactly how I could both honor my mother ~ who also has an amazing heart for orphans around the world AND care for some of the children left behind in China for Mother's Day this year.

"Mother’s Day is for giving thanks to Mom for all she has given. Show her how much you appreciate her nurturing and affection by supporting a precious child in her name. She’ll see you really care when she knows you’ve provided for “the least of these” with a gift card dedicated to her.

These special cards are available for you to send with your own personal note, or we’ll do all the work for you. For a limited time this Mother’s Day, we are offering tribute cards to be sent for as little as $15.
Use this link to fill out the on-line form and pick your favorite card.
Mother’s Day is May 8, 2011.
We will be accepting card orders through May 4, 2011."
Does your mother have a special heart for orphans too?

Great idea Kristi! I'm all too aware at the moment of how much STUFF we have. It's embarrassing!

Thanks for the link, I was thinking of something like this, but didn't know about Orphan's Wish doing it - thanks!!

And good luck with moving - it is a ton of work! We still have the big bulk of work ahead of me once our house in NH sells, but I did go through all closets etc. last summer and purged like mad :)
