Christmas through their eyes

There's just something wonderful about really paying attention to what children notice about Christmas.
ky with her very first ornament ~ sent to us the Christmas we had her picture but not our girl at home

From Kylie this year we've been hearing 'new arrangements' of Christmas carols.  She's been taking words from one, rearranging them, then taking music from another, and blending them into Kylie specials.  While this doesn't allow us to really learn any of her new songs ~ she doesn't sing any of them more than once or twice before she abandons them to spin new ones ~ it has been quite entertaining and sweet.  She has the most precious look on her face when she sings as she is very serious about honoring baby Jesus.
my boy with last year's pick from St. Nick Knack's in Calabash ~ he loves some cookies!

Caleb has been giving us snippets of truth.  Focusing that Christmas is fun because of presents, but that it is about God's love and not new cars and trains ~ though he does let us know that he wouldn't mind a few...  My favorite 'Caleb-ism' so far though was when we were decorating the tree.  He pulled out a little ornament that he made in preschool last December and said, "Hey Mommy Daddy, look!  I look like a angel.  (Big pause, eyes disappearing into his classic Caleb smile)  But I not one.  (belly laugh)"
dq showing off the ornament her siblings picked for her last year as we waited for her to come home

Darcy's understanding of the English language has continued to build.  She is really starting to comprehend words.  We've been hearing many, many of the following kind of revelations.  "Hey mommy, chocolate milk made out of chocolate."  (Well, yes, it is).  "Hey Daddy, hamburger made out of ham."  (Um, they are at least both meats).  "Hey you guys, pepperoni made out of pepper."  (Well, not quite sweetie).  We've had our share of giggles over some of them.  But my favorite by far was, "Hey Mommy.  Christmas made out of (me fully expecting to hear Chris or something like that but being blown away with the following instead) baby Jesus born in a manger."

This Christmas holiday, may we not get caught up in the materialism and hustle bustle that often comes to steal our joy.  May we see Christmas through the eyes of a child...

Love seeing those smiling faces in their Christmas 'jammies.' Marveling at what God has already brought to you, and what is yet come for The M6 in 2011. He is good!

Looks like it is shaping up to be a wonderful Christmas! I love the humility of Caleb, cracks me up. Though I have never been very good at making up my own lyrics to songs like Kylie, I do remember at one point thinking hamburger was made out of ham... I mean it just makes sense right?

Wow. Darcy blows ME away. Sweet, sweet girl, I so wish I could give you a great big hug. That is EXACTLY what Christmas is made of.

And, seriously, that's a pretty deep language skill for her!!

AND...I had to really think about the fact that she WASN'T here last Christmas. Seems like she's always been there! :)

Love you all!

I am right there with you ... enjoying seeing the holiday through Hudson's eyes. Even without the understanding it is all new to him and he is loving it. He has no idea about the gifts UNDER the tree - he is joyful over the tree. :) I love it. It takes a child to remind us to enjoy the little things!
Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family!

Three precious children, three meaningful ornaments. Making memories and traditions is such an important part of family.
