A secret

One of these three darling kiddos has a 'secret'.

(That they don't mind sharing ~ in fact the 'secret' is something that pretty typically is a topic of conversation when this child is on the phone with grandma.  I only call it a 'secret' because it is something that is told at normal volume instead of this child's typical LOUD volume).

Can you guess who it is?

Let me give you a hint.

Someone has a crush.

Yep.  It's him.  My little guy is smitten.

The girls still insist that they are going to marry their daddy.  (Well, when they don't declare their undying love for their cousin.  We'll work that out later).    But my boy?

He totally has a thing for a little girl from our weekly playgroup.

If I must say, he picked well.  She is darling.  She has a spunky little personality.  She can totally hold her own with him in a game of tag.  And I like his mom.

So if my son has to be 'in love' with someone that's not me, I guess I approve of this little crush.  I knew it was serious when he asked me if she could go to the fair with us.

She has a pretty name, but he doesn't use it.  He still refers to her as, 'the one with the purse.'

Most nights at dinner we take a few minutes to discuss our daily highs and lows.  His high almost every time we play is the following:
"My high that I saw 'the one with the purse.'"  (pause.  BIG eye disappearing grin).  "No, I not see her today."  (pause.  Another BIG, eye disappearing grin).  "I WILL see her soon!"

Luckily for my little guy, 'the one with the purse' pretty much thinks that he hung the moon.  It's cute to watch them interact.  No one else seems to exist when they play together.

Her mom and I compare notes when we see each other at play group.  Apparently she talks about him non-stop too.

(Sigh).  Is it 'just a crush' when the feeling is mutual?

(Double sigh).  I guess he really is growing up.

At least he still insists on carrying Lightning with him where ever he goes...

As you know, we're very experienced in that area around our house. Ha! Sounds like our kids know how to pick 'em. And "the one with the purse" is so cute I can't stand it!

This is the cutest secret EVER!!!

But I can totally relate to that moment of thinking, "Mah baybee is growing uppppp!" (sniff sniff). AK had her first crush this past summer on Matt the Lifeguard at the pool. It was hilarious-- she would totally show off for him going down the slide or jumping off the side. That first innocent crush -- so sweet. And the girl with the purse? Is one lucky gal if Caleb likes her!!

I don't know, I don't think I buy it. I was at the park once and he didn't give her the time of day! But I did see a few times where they had fun. And I think the sisters would know best and they wouldn't stop talking about how strange it was that he wasn't playing with her...

p.s. He is going to LOVE this post when he reads it in about 15 years!

Zach has a girlfriend and they are both talking about marriage. He asked me yesterday how old you had to be to get married and I almost cried. They grow up so fast!
