Where we are...

This is going to be short and sweet.  Caleb sacked out early (like about 5pm) again today, so I figure that since I'm likely to be up around 4am, I may as well post then and sleep now.  Of course the sleep now is IF I can get to sleep.  The fireworks have already started...

Just so you know, this post is going to be mostly for me.  I found these pictures from yesterday on my camera tonight.  In my tired stupor last night I totally forgot that I had even taken them.  (The pictures from yesterday's post I uploaded in Chicago, but there was no free wifi at the airport).

The Shanghai airport is a very nice facility.  As soon as we got off the plane and entered the main airport, we came across this sign.  We'll be there by this time tomorrow!

First sign we saw in the Shanghai airport.  We hope Darcy will be proud of her city!

Our mini-van ride was a good way to catch glimpses of the city.  At least for Ian and I.  Because after Kylie and Caleb spent the five minutes asking if "that building is in China," they began to tickle one another.  We've come such a long way in the 16 months that they've been siblings!  Thank goodness that they love each other so.

Despite not sleeping in a bed for nearly 24 hours, they still had fun together in the mini-van on the way to our hotel.
Traffic was rather light and instead of the quoted hour to get to our hotel, it was only about 40 minutes.

Our room is nice, and the bathroom is HUGE!  We were admiring our view yesterday before we ventured out for dinner and of course took some pictures.  This view doesn't show as many cool skyscrapers, but I included it for a different reason.  The building right across the street has to heights, a six story part and a three story part.

Our Shanghai home ~ appropriately at the intersection of Guangdong and Hubei Roads.
(Kylie and Caleb's provinces)
Part of the view from our window
The three story part is where this series of fireworks was shot from!  I'm telling you, it was crazy!  And on the right side view, the same distance from our building, fireworks were going off at the same time.  Throughout the night it alternated between sounding like bombing to sounding like a "whiteout" rainstorm.  Even today as we began our walk folks were setting off the kind that makes a HUGE boom sound and just does the white flash.  During the day!  Where do they buy those things?

This firework was taken from our window with the regular lens...

Alright, going to try to get some sleep before the shelling begins.  Maybe tonight I'll sleep through it!  I'll probably get the chance to post about our VERY FULL (we left the hotel at 10 and got back at 7:45) day of sightseeing in the wee hours of the morning.  If not I'll try to catch up once we are in Hangzhou.  Our driver is meeting us in the lobby at noon.

Night!

I SO remember those fireworks, as our first visit to China was in mid-February. I thought people were shooting each other and I was scared- then Scott reminded me it was Chinese New Year. Oh my it was loud!! If I recall, it got quieter each night during our stay- hope it's the same for you! :) Can't wait to see and hear more tomorrow! Thanks for posting!
