For serious?

So yesterday Kylie had been digging around in the "hair accessory" drawer in her bathroom and picked out some additional bits to "glam" up her hair. And the hair stuff of course called for some "bling" to accompany the wardrobe. We were going to LifeGroup last night and the folks there adore her, so I figured there was no harm in going with the "super accessorized Kylie" look.

Then last night as she was getting ready for bed she so sweetly asked if she could have her hair the "zach same way for tool to-moddo." Sure, I thought, it's kinda cute.

This morning she came to my room as soon as she woke up and asked through eyes still blurred with sleep, "Mommy, will you hep me fix my hair and then get dessed?" I love the funky combo of dress and tights she picked. In fact she was so proud of the finished ensemble that I just had to take a picture
and anyone who has met my son knows that if the camera is pointed at Ky that he has to have his turn too. So he got a quick shot, sweats and all.

As we were walking out the door, backpacks on backs and lunchboxes in hand ~ already pushing the envelope for making it to school on time ~ I glanced at Caleb's November calendar to see what they were going to be learning about today.

And then I saw it...

FALL PICTURES ~ 9:30
SIBLING PICTURES WILL BE TAKEN AT THIS TIME

Really? For serious? How did I forget? They even wore stickers home on Thursday as a reminder that school pictures were today.

I hesitated for a second, considering what coordinating shirts they may have clean in the closets, wondering how late we'd be if I went digging ~ and then decided that promptness was more important than taking "fashion plate" children to school for picture day. I almost hung my head as we passed all the kids dressed in their Gymboree or Gap finery ~ and then I realized, no school photographer is going to capture their personalities like I did this morning anyway...

My three year old showing her diva side.
My other three year thinking about being mischievous!

And even if a professional photographer managed to get them to both smile at the same time, could said photographer get the essence of this sibling duo as well as their mommy?
I'll let you know when I see the proofs, but it's doubtful!

You are building a confident little girl! Love the photos and I'm sure they'll be better than the school's photog!

Too cute! And don't worry-we have all been there-Jordan once had bedhead...I swear it was daddy's day to send her off to school! School pics are over priced anyway!

Awww, that second one of them together will just melt your heart. Isn't it wonderful the way the Lord knits families together? And just think, he's not done with your tapestry yet!! I'm sure more heart melting cuteness will be forthcoming when Miss Darcy comes home!

I think they look fabulous! Looooove the ring, dahling... And you'll have school pictures that capture them as they are - not the staged "my kids always dress like Gap commercial and never have a hair out of place" photo. ;-)

That Kylie will fill up the entire frame with personality and grace. And Caleb will do it because it's just him, mischievous, fun and with lots of giggles. Those are the pictures that we remember most! Have fun!

I think Kylie needs a nice pair of funky colored converse. :) I'm not a big fan of the preschool/daycare pictures, but you know I love the candids a lot better.

Think I'll make an 8x10 of several of these to keep around at different locations to remind me to be happy with myself - whatever that looks like. Both of them are just bursting with personality and confidence. I love them so much!
