Off they go!

This morning was the long awaited first day of preschool. First day for Kylie in our new city (she attended the preschool where I taught last year for the summer session and then from the week after Labor Day until mid-October when we moved) and first day ever for Caleb!

Ky has been so excited to get back into preschool. She is my little social butterfly. This morning she came into my room all sleepy-eyed and asked, "What are we doing today Mommy?" When I responded with, "Today is the first day" she didn't even let me finish my sentence but jumped in with, "I get to go to preschool? YAY!" And then she melted my heart as she put on a serious face and asked, "Mommy, are you going to be lonely without us?" I quickly assured her that I'd miss them, but I was so happy for them to have this opportunity to make new friends.

The morning quickly got away from us and we only had time for a few hurried pictures...

Grabbing lunchboxes...

...waving bye-bye to Daddy as he left for work...

...begging me to put down the camera...

...announcing the photo shoot is over and it is time to go to school!
For the record, those capri pants on Kylie were full length this spring...

This morning I told the girl who trimmed my hair that I don't know what was worse, the guilt of peeling Kylie off of me as I left her on her first day of preschool last summer, or the realization that both of them are growing up as they walked into class today, heads held high with confidence, casually tossing, "I love you Mommy." over their shoulders as they settled into their activities without a second thought of me.

And to answer Kylie's morning question, I am sorta lonely...

It takes a while to settle into the routine of spending some time by yourself. Glad to hear that you were able to get your hair cut.

They look so cute!

They are both just darling, Kristi! I can't imagine the day BOTH of mine get dropped off- I'm sure I'll cry some tears but also enjoy a little bit of QUIET! :) I hope you're getting through the morning okay.

It is so bittersweet, isn't it? We want them to be happy and able to enjoy life without us always there, but it stings just a little to see them grow up so fast.

So, while I really hate to see my kids go off to school, I'm learning to enjoy my moments of "just me", just like I watched all the moms learn when I was working in that environment. I wouldn't want Caroline gone every day, but I like her going a couple of days a week. I am fast becoming a "9:01 parking lot peeler". :-)

The kids look adorable, by the way, and I'm so happy that they were happy to go! Cute backpacks!

So happy that the day started off so well. They look so adorable. It is wonderful that they both are secure enough to leave you and Ian for a few hours so easily. Good job Mommy and Daddy.
Love all of you,

What a joy that both are confident about going to preschool - you and Ian can be proud. I'm glad you did something special for yourself this first morning. They look soooo cute in their outfits.

They look so cute all ready to go tackle the world of playdough and finger paint!

Is it wrong to be a little jealous of your alone time...I think I left that in China. Not that I want it back full time but I would love a few hours :0)
