You've gotta read this!

When we first started down the road to parenthood on "the road less traveled," all I could think about was bringing home a baby AYAP (adoption lingo for "as young as possible"). Funny how several years later all I can think about is bringing home toddlers. God first totally removed my desire to go through pregnancy and later the "need" to know my children in their infancy. (More on these two thoughts at another time).

And while I'm focused on toddlers for now and have no desire to adopt an older child, I won't put that past my God ~ sometimes He takes us where we never expected to go! So just in case you are on the brink and thinking of adding an older child to your family, you have got to read this sweet letter written by a young lady who was adopted just before she "aged out" of being eligible of the gift of a forever family!

Perspective from an older adoptee

**And in some personal news...
We got good word from our agency this week. Our LOI (letter of intent to adopt Darcy) was submitted to the Chinese Center for Adoption Affairs last Friday (7/24 ~ nine months since we stepped off the plane in Beijing to meet Caleb)! Next step is the PA (pre-approval) from the special needs department. That approval basically says that the special needs department approves us adopting Darcy as long as our dossier supports what our initial shortened application says. PAs are currently averaging about two weeks. The PA won't affect our timing in any way (our dossier arriving in China is the big time factor at this point), but it does mean that our adoption agency gives us permission to request more information about and pictures of our sweet girl at that point. Plus we'll get to send a care package! So today is one week down, now come on PA!!!**

Whoo hoo!! Great news about your LOI!! I so wish our agency(you know the one!) would let us send a care package at PA. I'm just pouting. Sorry! But I can't wait for you to be able to do that!!

Woo hoo! Come on, Darcy! Funny you mentioned about pregnancies... I also grieved not being pregnant but then the desire was gone!

I FINALLY got to catch up on your blog and man you've been busy!

You're vacation pics are amazing...as all your pics are! It looks like you trip full of great family memories. I was given a "leash" as a shower gift and now I'm rethinking my plan to return it :0)

Caleb looks like he has grown two inches in the last three weeks. What are you putting in that roasted cauliflower?

I'm thrilled to hear that there is so much progress on Darcy's adoption! My heart is already longing to go back and I can't wait to begin "doing papers" again. I've promised Allie that I will wait until KayLi is settled, her "papers" are finished and surgery(ies) are over with before moving forward though. So I'm totally livin' a vicarious life through ya!

Oh, and I absolutely LOVED your anniversary post...too sweet! Don't you love that blogs give us a way to vent all the sappy stuff!!!!!

Thanks for posting to older girls story. I have said I would go back for a child a little older than Makenna. My husband still says ayas though. Still looking on list for our next child.

What a great story! So neat to hear it from their perspective. I can't believe how fast you are moving with this one. I am actually stilled "scared" of all that paperwork for round 2. Our first one took a full year. I know it goes quicker the next time but....
