My little imp

It's cool (thank goodness, our AC was repaired after a couple of HOT days and nights) and quiet in the house right now. Kylie is happily putting together an alphabet puzzle that I picked up at a yard sale for fifty cents and Caleb is still napping (so much easier to sleep when it's not dreadfully hot in the house!). After reading my cousin's most recent post on A One ~ A Two ~ A Three I came to the realization that I've been so focused on "getting caught up" on what we've been up to lately that I've been neglecting some of the day to day conversations with my kids that need to be recorded before they are forgotten.

So before I forget, here are a few of the latest quotes from Kylie.

I was getting frustrated with the process of finding a new general practice doctor here. Kylie had just awakened and was snuggling in my lap as I was on hold. I sighed deeply when I found out that yet another doctor that had been recommended to me was not taking new folks and Kylie asked what was wrong. I told her that I was having a hard time finding a new doctor and that it was making me cranky. She just smiled that little impish smile at me and suggested, "Maybe you should take a rest!" Guess she's heard me say that a time or two...

Last Monday morning she woke up just before Ian left for work. It was a dreary day and quite honestly I felt like I had been hit by a truck and Ian was in no mood to go back to work after the weekend. Instead of coming out to the kitchen like she usually does for breakfast, she headed straight to the corner of the couch and huddled under her favorite red blanket, sucking her thumb with the most forlorn look on her face. Ian was totally taken aback and came out to ask me if I knew of anything wrong with Kylie. I decided to get to the bottom of her gloomy mood and went to see if everything was okay. She didn't even turn to look at me as she said, "I hate it when it rains in the morning."

Kylie likes, no ~ make that LOVES, gum. She was going through it so quickly that I've had to cut her back to two pieces a day ~ one between breakfast and lunch and then one after rest time. Each time I give her some I give her the reminder that she needs to make it last. Yesterday she wanted a sip of my drink and she "fvallowed" her gum to make room for the drink. As soon as she got her sip she asked for more gum and I gently reminded her that she had already reached her limit for the day. Her reasoning to try to persuade me to change my mind? "But I don't have anything in my mouth!"

Her quest for a sister continues. The other day she was playing quietly with some of her pretend food while Caleb was playing with his cars. All the sudden he jumped up, headed who knows where, and as he passed by he kicked over her carefully constructed "meal." Instead of blowing up as I somewhat expected, she simply shrugged her shoulders, sighed, and said, "Mommy, can we go to China to get my sister, I'm tired of boys!"

In the car I overheard the following very important discussion between she and Ian:
"Daddy, what is your favorite color?"
"Well, I like a lot of colors, but I guess green is my favorite."
"Nope, not green."
"Oh really, why can't green be my favorite color?"
"That's mommy's favorite. You can't have green. What is your favorite?"
"I guess blue then."
"Nope, that's Caleb's favorite..."

And I guess I need to get more creative in our "mystery trips." So far we've gone on three, all to the zoo, to meet up with different people. Now when we get in the car without me telling her ahead of time where we're headed she'll ask, "We go-in on a mysty tip to da zoo?"

Here are a few pictures from our last trip when we met my friend Amanda and her two youngest daughters for a "girls day" at the zoo.

Laughing with joy that Susannah was the "mystery friend" we were meeting at the zoo.
Despite being three and four years old, Ky and Susannah haven't forgotten about each other even though we've lived across the state for over six months.
Two little cuties! We're looking forward to a trip to the mountains with Susannah and her whole family soon!

More, more, more!! I love reading stories like these. And you're right- it's SO easy to get caught up in the daily stuff and forget to record. Great post!!

I hate to break it to Kylie but having a little sister will probably result in knocking over her tea set as well. LeighAnna is still determined that an older brother will solve all her boredom problems.

I love the every day stuff! Doesn't it make you appreciate momhood even more? So sweet! Your blog will be such a great gift to your kids!

Just precious! And the comment about the not-such-a-mystery trips cracked me up!!!

Cute! I've missed your blogs lately. Where was Caleb on your girls' day at the zoo? I have to agree with Andrea, I'm not convinced that a sister is going to be the answer for Kylie. You'll have to keep it real for her and tell her about some of your Traci's squabbles in your younger days. :)

So very cute! I am just loving this age of the girls. They know just what to say when you need it most.

I just love how her little mind works. She is precious! She needs a little sister huh? She is soooo funny!
Poor Caleb will be out numbered if that happens.

I love to hear how Kylie's mind works. Kylie, I hate rain in the morning, also. Especially when I have to go to work in the rain.
Taking a "rest" surely helps my attitude some days. She is just too smart! haha
Girls day at the zoo looks like great fun. Know that Ian and Caleb enjoyed their "boys" day together as well.
