After being home for about 36 hours and (somewhat) recovering from our 1245 mile in five days road trip, we once again piled into the Highlander to visit our family "back home" for Easter. That Saturday all of my mom's family who lives in the area met at a nearby park for a cook-out. When we first arrived Kylie enjoyed being pushed on the swings, while Caleb showed his adaptability and understanding that "you better sleep when you can."
Just after we ate my aunt organized an egg hunt for the little kids (in age order ~ Kyler, Chloe, Kylie, Bryson, Caleb, and Toby).
I must preface the following pictures (so that you won't think my kids are totally spoiled rotten) with the reminder that just the previous Saturday Kylie and Caleb participated in an egg hunt in which the eggs were LOADED with candy, compliments of my chocolate loving friend Cindy. The eggs in this hunt were empty as there were prizes for the kid in each age group who found the most, and then prizes for everyone to enjoy. (Really fun airplane launchers I may add that my kids are still playing with...) But Caleb is (as my friend Cindy LOVES to gently rub in my face ~ check out her blog with pics of my kids here) a true "junk food junkie" and he ~ as well as his sweet tooth sister ~ remembered the cache of candy from the week before. I LOVE how they both seemed to react the same way even though they participated in two different hunts due to "age brackets." I suppose they both take after their Mama who loves some Easter chocolate a little more than I realized...
"Um, hello? There must be some mistake. I think this egg is empty!"
"Check it out, this one seems light too!"
"Yeah, pretty sure there is nothing in there..."
"So not worth my time!"
Eventually though they decided to see how many eggs they could find and ended up enjoying themselves ~ even without candy...

That's hysterical. I don't care how cool the launchers were, give me some CHOCOLATE CANDY!!! I'm heading over to look at Cindy's pictures now.
What a great way to enjoy the hunt without the chocolate mess that's often on pretty Easter outfits!

The empty egg hunt really is a good idea in theory. But theory doesn't taste as good as candy.

Mickey got one of those airplane launchers from my Mom and Dad, by the way, and LOVED it. And within 20 minutes, both planes were stuck in the gutters of our two-story house. Oh, well...
I bet you all had a fantastic day in the park with everyone together. Wish we could have been there - Ella and Carly would have been wondering about the empty eggs as well.
That was so funny! Caleb throwing down his egg in disgust is a look I won't soon forget, and Kylie's little wrinkled brow... What in the world. It was pretty funny.
It was a fun day with everyone. Kylie I enjoyed pushing you on the swings while Caleb slept. Oh and don't forget feeding the ducks... you kiddo's are so precious to Uncle Adam and I. I hope you'll always know that!!!

Love the expressions! They look just like my kids on Easter morning when they realized that they had been given soccer shorts instead of candy in their baskets. But, somehow, at the end of the day, they still ended up with a ziploc bag full of treats! Maybe there's more to this Easter bunny thing than I realized....
